Club Background and History
Ifield Divers is an independent Diving Club run by and for amateur sport divers. Training is offered in all the skills necessary to undertake sport diving and facilities are available for suitably qualified members to participate in a variety of diving activities. The club itself was founded in about 1968/9, as an extension the limited training being offered to pupils at a School in Ifield. In 1976 a few members who dived together frequently raised funds to buy an inflatable and engine. At about the same time the club joined the then newly formed Sub Aqua Association. The SAA was formed to give independent clubs a collective voice whilst permitting them to maintain their own identity. Through the association we are able to offer internationally recognised qualifications. In 1983 we purchased our first hardboat which enabled members to dive in greater comfort that is possible from inflatables. This was upgraded in 1990 to a 31 foot Mitchell day boat, and recently to an Aquastar 32 which has twin engines for better speed range and safety.
